Update: Pine Gulch Fire, 8/24/2020

GRAND JUNCTION, CO – Fire crews have done a yeoman’s job containing the spreading wildfire, with 44% containment despite the fire’s spread to approximately 133,783 acres. Total personnel on the ground is at 907.

Although thunderstorms are expected to move into the direct fire region after 2:00 pm today, rainfall is not expected. Instead, lightning and gusty winds are the primary concern, which could bring more erratic fire behavior.

Hazy conditions and smoke continue to affect most of the valley, and the Air Quality Index remains at Unhealthy for Sensitive Groups. People sensitive to smoke and poor air are encouraged to remain indoors as much as possible, and don’t forget that this applies to pets, too.

The Rocky Mountain Incident Management team, which is managing the Pine Gulch fire response, will be holding a virtual public meeting tonight at 6:00 pm to update the community about the fire. The meeting will be held over Zoom and will be livestreamed over Facebook at the following link (Facebook account NOT required to view the livestream):
